Fulani woman and her mobile phone

Today I simply offer you a picture. The photo of a Fulani woman with her mobile cellphone.

We were at a meeting, discussing with other women in her group. Her phone rang … she simply got up and stood aside from the group to answer.

La femme peule et son portable

The picture shows two new realities here.

1. The importance of mobile phones in Burkina Faso. The most recent estimates from 2010 indicate that one third of the population now has a mobile phone.

2.Fulani herders, even those who live in a place a bit remote from their village, have taken to this new tool. A tool which facilitates social integration and brings with it a demand for education.
