Dedication for “ Educate for peace and non violence”
The headquarters of ”Éditions Harmattan Burkina” in Ouagadougou hosted the dedication of ”Educate for peace and non violence – 16 teaching scenarios on peaceful coexistence” on June 6th, under the patronage of Monseigneur Anselme Tatiama SANON and the sponsorship of Mr Modeste YAMEOGO, SAAGA First Chief of Issouka, Koudougou. Our own publishing house, SEDELAN (Service d’Edition en Langues Nationales) which has taken part in the publication, was also present on this occasion.
The increasing rate of social and political conflict in Burkina Faso and in Africa concerns us all. No nation in the sub-region is preserved from the rising levels of violence in all its forms. The young are tempted by revolt, at times violent revolt. But they are also a source of hope..
Education for peace, as suggested in this book, opens the way for acquiring skills that will help young people to better manage conflicts and violence. It does, in particular, teach young people how to accept difference and how to find constructive solutions to conflicts they are involved in..
This book is a guide to role plays for peace and is intended for various training professionals, workshop leaders, teachers, educational advisers, group leaders and youth movements and associations.
As mentioned above the book presents 16 scenarios:
- Discovering peace
- Living together peacefully – you can learn it!
- Going through conflict
- Conflict escalation by violence
- Conflict escalation by extension
- Managing our emotions
- Risky and toxic messages
- Perception of conflict
- Interpretation of conflict
- Analysing conflict
- Communication
- Conflict and creativity
- Cooperative negotiation - an introduction
- Cooperative negotiation in practice
- Mediation
- Friendly banter (teasing and defusing tension)
The book comes with a CD-Rom of the 16 scenarios, that you can use with a video projector for your own sessions.
With the guidance of the book and the CD-Rom you will see that you are able to educate all kinds of groups of young and no so young people for peace, in an efficient and relevant way!
Our thanks to the authors, Andreas Göpfert and Anicet Liliou, for this practical and efficient teaching tool. For information and contacts with the authors and shops where you can find the book, see their website: educationalapaix.blog
